Jerry speaking at Architect@Work

Jerry will be speaking at Architect@Work this month. Tate Harmer will be joining Exploration Architecture, Gustafson Porter, Architype and Eleanor Young of the RIBA Journal at the Design Driven by Natural Forces seminar. Come and check it out! Eden Hotel submitted for planning


Our design for a 109 bedroom hotel for the Eden Project has today been submitted to Cornwall Council. The scheme includes a small cafe and three classroom spaces. We have worked with Eden and Luke Greysmith Associates to make sure the design works with and enhances the local landscape, with features including Cornish hedgerows marching through the building and local Larch pole cladding.

Architects Journal: TH unveil timber ‘exoskeleton’ extension

RIBA education workshop with The Bridge Academy at the TreeXOffice


Kathryn and Jerry from the office organised an RIBA education workshop for Art and Design students with Fiona Macdonald from the RIBA and Siobhan Tate from the Bridge Academy at our TreeXOffice space in Hoxton Square today. The students made fantastic three-dimensional portraits of the square!

Dartmoor Arts, 2015


We have just finish a new stargazing platform for Dartmoor Arts as a collaborative design and construct exercise with twelve students. Many thanks to carpenter Henry Russell, assistant Johnnie and technician ‘PJ’ (Paul Dove) as well as the fantastic students for designing and building this in just five days!

TREExOFFICE is a unique co-working concept offering 8 individual workspaces for hire, and can also be hired exclusively for small meetings and intimate events.


Architects Journal: ‘pop-up office in Hoxton Square’


The installation, named TREExOFFICE, will be rented out to fundraise for environmental regeneration charity Groundwork’s work in Hackney’s parks and open spaces.

Habitat First Group reveal the masterplan design for new Silverlake Dorset project

Barrenger Road Passivhaus is complete!

Tate Harmer_149Our new-build Passivhaus at Barrenger Road has now reached completion! We are on track to get Passivhaus certification for the project which should be confirmed in early 2015. This photograph is the kitchen area leading onto the central staircase and lightwell space, all constructed from beautiful ash.


Frith House in Yoxford is complete!

141202_YoxfordClad in Japanese charred larch this single storey three bedroom house is set in the grounds of a listed building, and mimics the appearance of surrounding agricultural buildings to fit into its’ historic setting. The new home is also extremely low energy with super-insulation, triple glazing, an MVHR system and solar thermal hot water. We will be taking better photographs in 2015, watch this space!


Tate Harmer design a Bird Hide for the Habitat First Group


As part of our ongoing work with the Habitat First Group at the Lower Mill Estate, Tate Harmer have designed a Bird Hide to be sited by the existing lakes. The Hide is a fun place for children to discover nature… you know what it is yet?

Tate Harmer work with Dartmoor Arts Week

140804_Dartmoor_artsEvery year as part of the Dartmoor Arts Week Spatial Structure five day course, Jerry Tate, twelve
students and a carpenter design and construct a timber framed structure from locally felled
timber. This year we built a semi-enclosed walkway and bridge.



Tate Harmer appointed to work with the Habitat First Group

Following our competition entry to the Sunday Time British Homes Awards, Tate Harmer have been appointed by the Habitat First Group to design 15 new-build Passivhaus standard homes at the Lower Mill Estate in the Cotswolds. We will be working on a site called Copse Mere next to Featherstone Young’s Habitat Houses, and works are due to commence on site in 2015.
