Our approach

"Tate Harmer has the vision and experience to deliver a fresh approach to sustainable architecture. I expect it to become one of the great design firms of the future." Tim Smit CBE, Chief Executive, Eden Project

Our Practice

Tate Harmer is one of the UK’s leading architects for sustainability and natural environments.

We’re a personable, enthusiastic, competition winning team who aim to design exactly the right solution for each project we work on.

We have no house style. Deliberately. What we do is create individual, beautifully considered designs for people, places & situations.

We’re adept at navigating the complex world of planning, design & construction with straight forward processes & tact. We’re incredibly proud that people say they enjoy working with us.

We specialise in spaces connected to the natural environment. Spaces that feel at ease with their surroundings. Inspirational designs for communities and people.

“Tate Harmer suggested innovative solutions for the heart of our campus and designed a building that is architecturally interesting, functional, flexible and sustainable. It has been fulfilling and fun working with their team.”

Michael Wilson, Headmaster of Cranleigh Preparatory School

Our Designs

The practice implements inventive solutions in response to challenging project restrictions at every level. Our expertise is based on a thorough knowledge and experience of the construction process. We adopt a hands-on approach, balancing conceptual and technical ability, ensuring that we can deliver a design at all stages of a project. Our pragmatic approach is combined with a proficiency in sustainability, for example we produce all of our energy calculations in-house.

“Tate Harmer soon came up with a design that satisfied both the museum’s and the site’s constraints, then tenaciously and cheerfully got on with the project. An enjoyable process from start to finish.”

Bryn Bird, Trustee of the Brunel Museum

Our Clients

Every project is different according to our clients’ individual needs, and we enjoy exploring their aspirations, visions and possible restrictions, to ensure these are strategically considered from the outset. Our clients include developers, hotel and leisure operators, cultural institutions and private individuals, and we know that each of these client groups will have different commercial or personal drivers for a project. Our goal is to create buildings and spaces that deliver value to our clients and form long-lasting places that serve the environment.

“It was a pleasure working with Tate Harmer. They responded to our brief incredibly quickly and with real enthusiasm. It couldn’t have happened without them.”

Sam Parry, Parks Development Manager, Hackney Council
